The governor has always said the mask decision was driven by hospitalization data. That means masks wont be required in grocery stores restaurants and other gathering points but theyll still be required in hospitals on mass transit and some other settings with vulnerable residents.

1 day agoThe governor reinstated the indoor mask mandate in late August after COVID hospitalizations started to rise again. You may wear a homemade face mask provided that it fits closely and covers your nose and mouth. On September 3 2021 the Governor signed Executive Order 21-22 which requires all individuals over the age of 2 and who can medically tolerate a face covering to wear a face covering when in indoor public places.

Pritzker said at a news conference on Wednesday that the states mask mandate will be lifted Feb. There is no requirement to wear a hospital grade mask or other specific type or brand of face covering. The face mask should allow for breathing without restriction.
